COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference released their Preseason Coaches' Poll and Players to Watch for baseball on Wednesday (Jan. 15) afternoon. Colorado Mesa was the unanimous selection to repeat as the regular season champion and was well represented in the 20-member Preseason Players to Watch list.
The Mavericks are the unanimous favorite to win the nine-team conference after winning the regular season title for the 12
th consecutive season in 2024. Colorado Mesa finished the season with a 38-18 overall record and a 24-8 record inside the conference. For the second straight season, they won the tournament title by going a perfect 4-0.
Colorado Mesa also earned a spot in the NCAA National Tournament for the 15
th consecutive season.
The Mavericks earned a total of 64 points by earning all eight possible first-place votes as the sponsoring schools could not vote for themselves. Regis was second and picked up the remaining first-place vote and had 56 points followed by MSU Denver with 48 points. CSU Pueblo was fourth with 44 points followed by Colorado School of Mines with 37 points and UCCS and Adams State tied for sixth with 25 points.
Colorado Mesa had five players on the Players to Watch list with all five earning All-RMAC honors a year ago. Pitchers
Caleb Ruter and
Ethan Voss were both named after earning All-RMAC and All-Region honors a year ago. Ruter finished the season 5-1 with 62 strikeouts in 55.2 innings pitched while Voss was 5-1 with four saves and a 2.98 ERA.
Outfielders
Ethan Nunez and
Kolby Felix both appear on the list after strong campaigns in 2024. Nunez was named the RMAC Freshman of the Year as he finished the season with 13 doubles, 12 home runs, and 51 runs scored while Felix earned All-RMAC and All-Region honors after batting .414 with nine doubles, 15 home runs and 43 RBIs after missing the first month of the season with an injury.
Designated hitter
Christos Stefanos rounds out the Maverick five. Stefanos earned All-RMAC Second team honors as he batted .371 with 47 RBIs during his junior campaign.
The Mavericks will open the season on February 6 at Cal Pol Pomona in a four-game series. They will host Montana State Billings on Thursday February 27 for their home opener.
