GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — Laura Gutierrez is continuing her basketball career, signing a professional contract to play in Costa Rica.
Gutierrez, who graduated in May from Colorado Mesa after scoring 1,068 points in her career, including 508 in two seasons with the Mavs, will play for CBA Physical Care in Heredia, just outside of the capital city of San Jose.
CBA Physical Care is in the Liga Superior de Baloncesto de Costa Rica, the highest basketball league in the country, and opens the season Saturday.
Gutierrez averaged 8.4 points a game her senior season, helping the Mavericks win the RMAC regular-season title and reach the semifinals of the South Central Region playoffs. She earned a spot on the RMAC Academic Honor Roll and Academic All-District honors after the season.
Colorado Mesa opens the 2024-25 season on Nov. 8 in the D2 Conference Challenge, facing West Texas A&M in Odessa, Texas. The home opener is Nov. 20 in a nonconference game against CSU Pueblo.
