PARIS, France— Incoming Maverick swimmer Harry Stacey made Colorado Mesa University history early Tuesday morning, competing in the 100-meter freestyle preliminaries at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Stacey, representing the west African nation of Ghana, finished 52
nd out of 79 Olympians with a time 51.12 seconds, good for seventh place in Heat 4 of the event, which will have semifinals for the top 16 swimmers on Tuesday evening before the top 8 will swim for the medals on Wednesday night.
Stacey's time was just over a half-second off his personal-best of 50.57 seconds and just 0.45 seconds off his seed time of 50.67, which allowed him to claim the bronze medal at the African Championships in Luanda, Angola earlier this summer.
Stacey will arrive on the CMU campus in August and begin preparations for the upcoming collegiate season, which begins with the CMU Intrasquad/Alumni Meet on Sept. 13 and the Intermountain Shootout on Oct. 4-5.
