Top two teams in the RMAC to clash this week

SERIES HISTORY
Colorado Mesa will head out on the road for a four-game series with the Regis Rangers beginning on Thursday in Denver. The series is bumped up a day due to the Easter Weekend.

The Mavericks and Rangers have met 124 times over the years with Colorado Mesa owning a 97-27 edge in the series. They are 8-2 in the last ten games and have a 36-13 advantage when playing the games in Denver.

Colorado Mesa defeated Regis 21-3 in last season's Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament Championship in Grand Junction at The Diamond.

SCOUTING THE RANGERS
The Regis Rangers are one of the best stories in the RMAC and the region this season. Following last season, they lose their head coach, best position player and best pitcher and have come out the other side better off in a lot of cases.

They have played one of the more difficult schedules this season and have fared well. They split with nationally ranked Augustana and just two weeks ago split with Lubbock Christian.

Ethan Sloan earned RMAC Pitcher of the Week this past week for recording two saves and striking out seven in three and a third innings pitched to take three games from rival MSU Denver.

GOING BACK-TO-BACK
Senior Robert Sharrar was named the RMAC Player of the Week for the second straight week after a monster performance against Colorado Christian. He helped lead the Mavericks to their second straight weekend sweep and to a winning streak that has now reached 11 games.

He batted .647 (11-for-17) with four doubles, a triple, and two home runs. He added two stolen bases, seven runs scored, seven runs driven in and an OPS over 2.000.

Sharrar is now sitting on a .430 batting average with 10 doubles, two triples, nine home runs and a team leading 34 runs driven in. He has raised his batting average 149 points since March 9, equal to the start of the conference season.

SINCE CONFERENCE STARTED
Since the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play started on March 9, the Mavericks have made a big turn for the better offensively and the pitching has steadily improved.

Offensively, the Mavericks are hitting .398 with 41 doubles, four triples, and 37 home runs. They have an on-base percentage of .499 and a slugging percentage of .791 since the first game of the series with MSU Denver.

ROTO-RUTER
The big left hander Caleb Ruter was inserted into the rotation this past weekend against Colorado Christian and fared well. The Arvada, Colo. native earned his first win as a Maverick as he allowed one run on six hits walked one and struck out four in his first start of the season.

The week prior, Ruter came out of the bullpen to relieve the starter and was outstanding. He went four and two-thirds and allowed two earned runs on three hits, walked two and struck out a season-high eight batters.

DO YOU HAVE VOSS?
Junior righty Ethan Voss has been one of the top relievers in the Maverick bullpen. The Burnsville, Minn. product leads the team in appearances with eight and has one of the top opponents batting averages of .265 coming out of the bullpen.

Voss had one of his best outings of the season last weekend against Colorado Christian where he allowed one run on five hits, walked two and struck out nine in four and two-thirds innings to earn his second win of the season.

BROTHERS AND SISTERS
The Colorado Mesa baseball and softball teams had an offensive explosion for the ages this past weekend. The softball team took on Black Hills State at a neutral site in Denver where they took all four games while the baseball team took on Colorado Christian and swept all four games as well.

The two teams combined to hit .449 with 26 doubles, 43 home runs, 122 runs scored and a 1.078 slugging percentage. The baseball team tied a single game record by blasting eight home runs in one of their four wins while the softball team tied an RMAC record for hammering eight home runs in a win over the Yellowjackets.

MAVERICKS IN MILB

All eight finished in the minors but two of them saw action in Major League Baseball during the 2023 season.
