LOS ANGELES— Hahni Johnson and
Amanda Ollinger continued to roll in the No. 1 spot of Colorado Mesa University beach volleyball lineup although the Mavericks were once again defeated by 4-1 margins by two of the better teams in the nation on Saturday here at Loyola Marymount University.
Johnson and Ollinger won both of their Saturday matches against the host nation's tenth-ranked Lions and Tulane, receiving votes in the AVCA Collegiate Beach Poll, but were the only Mavericks to do so. The same had happened in Friday's matches against Concordia University Irvine & Pepperdine.
Johnson and Ollinger now sport a 22-2 overall record, including an 18-2 dual meet mark while the Mavericks have dropped to 12-8 as a team.
LMU improved to 10-8 against a very difficult schedule while Tulane improved to 13-5 as they began a 6-match trip in California. The Mavs finished theirs against the Green Wave.
The Mavericks' No. 1 duo was able to defeat Michelle Shaffer and Vilhelmiina Prihti of LMU by a 21-19, 21-19 margin and then came from a set down to knock of Tulane's Savka Popovic and Trinity Jackson by a 16-21, 21-11, 15-10 margin.
They are now just two wins shy of the CMU single-season overall wins record of 24 and have one of the nation's best records, including a 13-2 dual record against 4-year college opponents in duals.
Johnson now also have 59 career victories, moving within one of fellow senior teammate
Sabrina VanDeList, who dropped two matches with partner
Savannah Spitzer on Saturday.
CMU will return action next weekend in Salt Lake City, competing in the Utah Beach Classic with two matches against CUI and one each against the host Utes and Texas A&M-Kingsville.
