COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) released their weekly baseball player and pitcher of the week on Tuesday (Mar. 19) afternoon. Colorado Mesa swept the awards with senior
Robert Sharrar picking up Player of the Week and junior
Evan Bunevich earning Pitcher of the Week.
Robert Sharrar batted .588 (10-for-17) with an OPS north of 1.800 in the series sweep of Colorado School of Mines. The Newbury Park, Calif. native added seven runs scored, a double, and three home runs while driving in eight. In the series finale, he went 2-for-5 with two runs scored, three runs driven and a home run. He earned the respect of the Orediggers in the game as well as he was issued an intentional walk during the seventh inning.
Sharrar is the first Maverick this season to earn RMAC Player of the Week honors.
Evan Bunevich earned the rare distinction of being a relief pitcher that was named the RMAC Pitcher of the Week after his outing against Colorado School of Mines. Bunevich pitched seven innings of relief to earn his second win of the season after allowing just one run. The Littleton, Colo. native scattered four hits, walked three and struck out five while the Orediggers managed to hit just .167 off him.
This is the second time this season that a Maverick pitcher has been named an RMAC Pitcher of the Week as
Cole Seward earned the nod on February 27.
Colorado Mesa will be back in action beginning on Friday as they take on the Colorado Christian Cougars at 6:05pm from The Diamond.
