SAN DIEGO— The Colorado Mesa University Mavericks were over-powered by the nation's 43
rd-ranked Point Loma Nazarene Sea Lions in Monday afternoon men's tennis action at the PLNU Tennis Courts.
The Sea Lions, now 6-3 this season, won the dual 7-0 winning all six singles matches, five of them in straight sets, and the two completed doubles matches.
In doubles, CMU's
Philemon Jabin and
Emil Hultman were tied in the No. 2 doubles match with Elias Weeks and Lukas Schuster at 4-all when that match was left unfinished after the Sea Lions won in the third and first flights by 6-1 and 6-3 scores, respectively.
In singles,
Diogo Manzano led the Maverick efforts, winning the first set of his No. 3 match with Andrew Suver, by a 6-4 margin. However, Suver won the second set, 6-1 and won the match tie-breaker by a 10-8 score to complete the dual.
CMU, 5-10 on the season, will continue a 5-match swing through California on Tuesday morning when the take on No. 39 Hawai'i Hilo in a neutral-site encounter at Azusa Pacific University. The dual will be the third of the season after the Vulcans won both ends of a Mar. 10 doubleheader over the Mavs in Grand Junction, Colorado. First serves are set for 9 a.m. PDT (10 a.m. Mountain).
