LEWISBURG, Pa.— The Colorado Mesa University men's and women's swimming and diving squads have both been recognized for their continued academic strength as each were named CSCAA (College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America) Scholar All-America Teams for the recently completed 2023 fall semester, it was announced by the organization on Monday.
The Maverick women have achieved the honor in each of the last 21 semesters dating back to the fall of 2013. The Maverick men have now been selected in 13 out of the last 14 semesters.
The Maverick women earned the honor after posting a team GPA of 3.51 during the semester, the highest of the four Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference squads to receive the honor. The men had had a GPA of 3.20.
A total of 783 programs from 461 institutions earned the honor, which required CSCAA member programs to have a 3.00 or higher team GPA during the semester. These teams, representing a total of 18,716 student-athletes, were chosen based on their outstanding academic performance during the specified semester.
The Mavericks continue to shine in the pool as well and will enter next weekend's Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships as the favorites to win their sixth straight titles. The CMU women are ranked No. 1 nationally according to the latest CSCAA NCAA Division II Top 25 Poll while the Maverick men are ranked fifth.
