POCATELLO, Idaho— NCAA Division I Idaho State was too much for the Colorado Mesa University men's tennis team in the Mavericks' spring season opener on Saturday morning here at the Bengals' Reed Gym.
Philemon Jabin claimed the CMU's lone set win in his No. 1 singles match, but eventually fell 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 to the Bengals' Victor Sklenka.
ISU, playing for the fifth time this spring improved to 2-3 as they won all three doubles matches, including two by 6-3 margins, before taking the other five singles matches in straight sets en-route to the 7-0 win.
Maverick sophomore
Emil Hultman put up the best fight in those matches, taking the first set of his No. 5 singles match against Ege Cankus to a tie-breaker, but was eventually overcome 7-6 (7-2), 6-3.
Henry Scheck and freshman
Axel Scholl, also dropped 6-4 sets in their No. 4 and 6 singles matches, respectively. Scholl was making his dual debut for the Mavs.
The Mavericks will remain here overnight and will take on NCAA Division III Whitman College on Sunday morning at 8:30 a.m.
CMU's women will play Idaho State on Saturday afternoon and NAIA College of Idaho on Sunday afternoon.
