DENTON, Texas – The No. 5 Colorado Mesa women's wrestling team had a banner day at the NCWWC Region VI Championships on Sunday (Feb. 25) at Kitty Magee Arena on the campus of Texas Woman's University.
The Mavericks claimed the Region VI Team Title for the second straight season as the amassed 221 points and held off Simon Fraser who finished as the runner-up with 207 points. Schreiner finished in third with 113 points followed by Chadron State (109.5) and Sioux Falls (91).
Colorado Mesa crowned five champions on the day and will send 11 wrestlers to the NCWWC National Championships.
Third-ranked and unbeaten
Jennesis Martinez made quick work of the 101-pound weight class as she was crowned champion for the second straight season. She earned a 10-0 technical fall win over Ava McNeal of Sioux Falls in her first match followed by a 10-0 technical fall win over Mana Chanthasone of Chadron State.
In the championship bout, she earned a pin in 1:36 over nationally ranked Odelia Lopez of Schriener and will now look to make it four All-American awards in her career.

Isabella Morales took on teammate
Adriana Gomez in the championship bout. Morales was able to come away with the title as she defeated Gomez by fall at 4:13. Both wrestlers will move onto the national tournament with Gomez making her first trip while Morales will look to make it back-to-back All-American awards.
Fourth-ranked
Holly Beaudoin finally got her revenge, and it took the region title bout to get it. Beadoin defeated second-ranked Jade Trolland of Simon Fraser 4-2 for her first win over the Red Leaf in three tries. Beaudoin fell to Trolland in a one-point match in both the dual and the RMAC Championship bout before claiming the Region title.
The redshirt junior had two quick pins that took less than two minutes combined that led to her finals matchup.

Dalia Garibay will get another shot at a potential national championship after claiming the 155-pound region title over Simon Fraser's nationally ranked Paige Maher by a 15-5 technical fall. It is Garibay's second straight win over Maher after a win in the RMAC title.

Caylee Collins claimed the Region VI title at 170 pounds after pinning Jadine Mata of Schreiner at the 3:59 point in the bout. The Burien, Wash. native picked up a 10-0 technical fall win in her first bout then earned a 9-5 decision over Rupinder Johal of Simon Fraser in the semifinals.
Freshman
Kiely Tabaldo placed second at 116 pounds after forfeiting her finals match to Simon Fraser's Maddie Mackenzie. Tabaldo opened the day by defeating Julia Petryna of Minot State by technical fall 10-0.
In the semifinals, she defeated Jaia Ashley of Schreiner 8-2 to reach the final and secure a berth to the NCWWC National Championships.
Freshman
Kaydence Boyd earned a third-place finish at 130 pounds after going 3-1 on the day. Boyd opened with a win over Mackenzie Armagost of Sioux Falls before falling to Simon Fraser's Marquesis Hainnz of Simon Fraser in the semifinals.
The Bakersfield native bounced back with wins by decision over Laisha Rios of Texas Woman's and Teila Peters of Sioux Falls to punch her ticket to the National Championship meet.
Junior
Erica Schroeder earned a third-place finish at the 143-pound weight class after going 5-1 on the day. She had one of the longest days of any wrestler as she earned a win over Zanya Walker in her first bout by fall before falling in the quarterfinals to Brinley Green of Sioux Falls by a score of 5-2.
She bounced back to win her final four matches to earn third-place after a fall, two technical falls and finally a pin of Haleigh Lematta of Minot State in her final bout of the day to punch her ticket.
No. 4 ranked
Jayleen Sekona will be going for her third straight All-American honor as the qualified for the NCWWC National Championships by placing third at 191 pounds. The Anchorage native opened the day with a technical fall win over Mia Howell of Texas Woman's but fell in the semifinals to Chadron State's Kamila Montenegro 6-5.
Sekona bounced back with back-to-back win including a win by injury default over Faith Perez just 56 seconds into the bout followed by a pin at 56 seconds over Sioux Falls' Zoe Adam in the third-place bout.
Sophomore Kim Carlin will be headed to her first National Championship tournament after a fourth-place finish at 170 pounds. She finished the day 2-2 with both her losses coming to Rupinder Johal of Simon Fraser and earned wins over Isabella Renner of Pacific and Maria Arellano of Chadron State.
The Mavericks will send their 11 wrestlers to the NCWWC National Championships in Cedar Rapids, Iowa that will begin on March 8 at Alliant Energy Powerhouse Arena.
