Mavs named PacWest Team of the Week

Honor comes after CMU went 3-0 in weekend trip to Arizona

IRVINE, Calif.— After a 3-0 weekend in Arizona, the Colorado Mesa University women's tennis squad was named as the Pacific West Conference's Team of the Week, it was announced by conference officials on Tuesday afternoon.

The Mavericks moved back above .500 to 7-5 as they claimed wins over Western New Mexico, Arizona Christian and Ottawa University of Arizona last Friday and Saturday in the Phoenix suburbs of Glendale and Surprise.

The 5-2 win over Western New Mexico on Friday afternoon was a key "in-region" win over a fellow NCAA Division II opponent.  The Mavs then up-ended Arizona Christian, a team that was receiving votes in the latest NAIA Top 25 poll, by a 6-1 margin later that afternoon in Glendale.

Coach Dan MacDonald's Mavs then finished the weekend, blanking Ottawa 4-0 in a match that was played to clinch on Saturday morning in Surprise.

The Mavericks are in the fourth year as affiliate members of the PacWest for the sports of men's & women's tennis.

After trips to Idaho, Nebraska and Arizona over the past three weekends, the Mavericks will have a break from competitive action this weekend before returning on the road to southern California for their first two matches of the season against PacWest opponents, when they will take on Biola on Friday, Mar. 1 and Azusa Pacific on the following day.
