DENVER— Colorado Mesa University volleyball student-athlete
Sabrina VanDeList received her third consecutive Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Summit Award prior to the Mavericks' RMAC Tournament Semifinal match here at Auraria Event Center.
The Summit Award is given to the student-athlete with the highest GPA who competes at each championship site or whose team won the RMAC regular-season title in those sports without a postseason championship. Summit Award winners must have competed in a minimum 20 percent of available competitions throughout the current season.
All GPAs are based on a straight-grading scale to ensure consistency among nominees. All ties are broken by the total number of credit hours completed through the most recently concluded semester.
To be eligible for the award, student-athletes must be sophomores or above and have participated in their sport at their institution for at least two years. They must also be active members of their teams and travel to and compete at the RMAC championship event.
VanDeList, a fifth year senior elementary education major with an emphasis in mathematics, holds a perfect 4.00 GPA. She has received a multitude of academic honors throughout her brilliant career, earning the RMAC Summit Award in 2022 and 2023 as well. She was also named as the RMAC Academic Volleyball Player of the Year in 2022 and has been named to the First Team All-RMAC squad in the last three seasons with another honor likely to come next week.
On a national level, VanDeList has received five College Sports Communicators Academic All-America honors, including three for indoor volleyball and two for women's at-large sports thanks to her prowess in beach volleyball.
She was also named as the RMAC Setter of the Year for the second straight season on Thursday and became the first RMAC Volleyball player to ever earn five First Team All-RMAC honors, possible thanks to the NCAA's COVID blanket eligibility waiver that allowed her to play in the spring of 2021 and all four following fall seasons. She also received her RMAC Setter of the Year award prior to Friday's match.
VanDeList is the Mavs' all-time record holder in both career assists and service aces with 4,956 assists and 183 aces entering Friday's match and could reach the 5,000 assist mark during the remainder of the RMAC Tournament. She is also the winningest beach volleyball player in Maverick history with 68 wins.
