Mavs downed by Eagles in weekend finale

DALLAS— The Colorado Mesa University volleyball team's opening weekend came to a close with a 3-set loss to Biola University on Saturday here at Dallas Baptist University's Burg Center.
 
Both teams finished the weekend tournament with 2-2 records.
 
The Eagles hit an impressive .340 as a team in their 25-20, 25-21, 25-13 victory as Juliana Van Ommering put down 16 kills while hitting at a .433 clip.
 
The Mavs were guilty of 17 hitting errors, eight of which were the result of Eagle blocks, and hit .111 as a team.
 
Sophomore opposite Addie Ritterbush came off the bench to record six kills for CMU.  She hit .294.
 
Freshman Trinity Burchett had nine digs to lead the CMU defense while sophomore setter Ashlyn Tafoya had 11 assists and half of CMU's four aces.
 
Henley Madsen, Molly Whalen and Jaycee Windorski all chipped in five kills to trail Ritterbush offensively.
 
The Mavericks will return home for their next six matches and will host the Volley in the Valley Tournament next Friday and Saturday in Brownson Arena.  Ten total matches will be played with CMU featuring in four of them.  The Mavs will play Sul Ross State and Fort Hays State on Friday and Fairmont State and Adams State next Saturday.
