Indianapolis, Ind. - The Colorado Mesa University Women's Soccer Team would be welcomed with good news this afternoon as they were selected as one of the six teams from the South Central Region to be a part of the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer National Tournament.
CMU earned the #5 seed in the South Central Region and will now head to Golden, Colorado where they will face off with #4 seed Midwestern State University in the first round. The Mavs will play on Friday the 22nd at Stermole Soccer Stadium at 3 p.m.
#1 seed Colorado School of Mines is serving as the host team of the first and second rounds with the winner of the #4 and #5 seed game taking on Mines on Sunday.
The Mavericks earned an outright bid into the tournament as the top six teams all earn automatic bids. Conference winners also gain automatic bids into the tournament.
The Mavs would earn this bid thanks to their incredible performance on the field this season where they went 13-2-3 and were 11-1 in the RMAC. During the season they would achieve a nine-game winning streak and record 10 shutouts on the year.
Six different players on the team received honors to the All-RMAC teams, with that bunch being highlighted by goalkeeper Keely Wieczorek who was named as the RMAC Goalkeeper of the Year and was joined on the First Team All-RMAC squad by Carli Dare, Abby Fotheringham, Sauvelyne Randel and Ally Wachtel, which was announced last Tuesday. Sarah Dunn also earned Honorable Mention All-RMAC honors.
Fotheringham and Mira Houck were named to the First Team RMAC All-Academic squad while 13 others were named to the RMAC All-Academic Honor Roll.
This will also mark first year Head Coach Jody Lingafeldt's first time earning a spot into the NCAA Tournament after taking over the program back in May. She will look to continue the Mavs' post season success which has made five previous NCAA Tournament appearances and advanced to the South Central Regional Final in 2023. They are 4-5 all-time in the NCAA Tournament, going 2-1 last year.
Tickets for the event can be purchased online at www.ncaatickets.com. Streaming will occur on the RMAC Network free of cost.
