Chavez, Bonafe and Negi earn All-RMAC Honors

Colorado Springs, Colo. - The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference would release this year's All-RMAC teams and individual awards for the 2024 season and in doing so would have three different Maverick players earn recognition. 

Diego Chavez and Marc Bonafe would lead the team's selections this year with each of them earning Second Team honors. 

Kensho Negi would also earn Honorable Mention. 

This is Chavez's second time earning All-RMAC in his career after being awarded the RMAC Goalkeeper of the Year award last season and being selected to the First Team. 

Bonafe and Negi both received their first career honors with these selections as this is both of their first seasons with CMU. 

Diego Chavez would earn Second Team All-Conference this season after starting all 17 games and recording a league-leading 90 saves while totaling four shutouts. In his career, Chavez has totaled 191 saves which is third best in program history. 

Marc Bonafe would also earn a spot on the Second Team after being the Mavs leading scorer and offensive threat this season. Bonafe would score four goals and tally seven assists in 2024 which were both marked for best on the team. His seven assists would be tied for fifth-best in the RMAC. 

Rounding out the Mavs' picks would be Kensho Negi who played in 16 games this season while starting 14 of them as one of the team's main defenders. Negi would score three goals on the year with his first goal of the season coming as the game-winner against Simon Fraser on Sept. 21.  

All three of these players would also earn RMAC Player of the Week honors in 2024 when the trio were awarded offensive player, defensive player and goalkeeper of the week on Sept. 24 in week three of the season. 

The individual award winners for 2024 would be led by CSU Pueblo as they took home three of the five. Caio Oliveira was awarded the league's Offensive Player of the Year award, Shjon Andrews was the league's Defensive Player of the Year for the third time in his career, while head coach Oliver Twelvetrees is the RMAC Coach of the Year. University of Colorado Colorado Springs goalkeeper Soren Russell earned the league's Goalkeeper of the Year honor and Fort Lewis midfielder Fabrizio Aguilera is the Freshman of the Year.
