Grand Junction, Colo. - The Colorado Mesa University Men's Basketball Team will look to bounce back from their opening series woes this past week when they head down to Durango this weekend for the annual Skyhawks Hardwood Classic, hosted by Fort Lewis College.
All games this weekend will take place at Whalen Gymnasium with the Mavs taking on Northern New Mexico College on Friday Nov. 15 at 2 p.m. before concluding their weekend against Westen New Mexico College on Saturday Nov. 16 at 5 p.m.
The Mavericks competed in the D2 Conference Challenge in Lakewood, Colo. this past weekend at CCU Events Center where they saw themselves drop two games against Lone Star Conference opponents in St. Edward's University and Dallas Baptist University.
Their game against St. Edward's would serve as the first game of Head Coach Mike Dunlap's career here at CMU, as he is still searching for his first win with the Mavs.
LOOKING AT THE NUMBERS
Through two games this season, the Mavs have still yet to find their offensive rhythm but have seen glimpses of promise as their freshman heavy class has seen much of the floor time.
Six different players have already scored in the double digits with four of them already scoring 10 or more points in both games. Freshman Mason Honeyman has led that bunch as he has been the team's leading scorer in both games of this season. Honeyman would score 15 points in the first game of the year while scoring 14 games in their second game.
Harvey White, Ty Allred and Will Mortimore are the other three players to record double-digit scoring in both games this season.
Allred and Mortimore have been the leading rebounders with Allred averaging 8.5 and Mortimore averaging 7.0. Both have yet to record a double-double this season with Allred coming up one rebound short in the game against DBU to break the seal.
As a team they are shooting 43.3% from the field while averaging 67.0 points per game. They have struggled from three-point range, only averaging 26.7% but redeem themselves with a 66.7% free throw percentage.
The biggest plague that has haunted the Mavs so far is turnovers. In just two games this season, they have totaled 44 turnovers which sits them in last place in the conference rankings.
Game Notes are attached with further information on the team.

ABOUT WESTERN NEW MEXICO
The Mavs will have another chance at a Lone Star Conference opponent this weekend when they play the Mustangs of Western New Mexico College.
Similar to the Mavs, the Mustangs have only played two games thus far this season as they too competed in a D2 Conference Challenge with their site taking place in Alamosa, Colo. with teams Adams State, Westminster University and University of Texas Permian Basin.
The Mustangs would drop games against Westminster University and Adams State during their stay in Alamosa.
Their offense averages 65.0 points per game while struggling defensively giving up 85.5 points per game to opponents. They are shooting 40.7% from the field, with their best area being at the free throw line where they average 78.4 %. They have been led offensively by Quincy Adams and Carson Kelly, Adams averaging 13.5 points per game and Kelly averaging 11.0.
