DENVER— The Colorado Mesa University Mavericks will take a 23-15 team scoring lead into a Saturday afternoon women's swimming and diving dual at Division I Colorado State University in Fort Collins as sophomore diver
Jenna Hurley led the Mavericks in both diving events contested Friday here at the University of Denver's El Pomar Natatorium.
Hurley scored 242.25 points on six dives off the 1-meter board and 241.35 points in the 3-meter event as the Maverick women's divers competed against the Rams in conjunction with Friday's Colorado State/Denver swimming & diving dual on Friday.
The host Pioneers also had four divers in each event. However, from the Mavs' perspective, only the comparative scores to CSU's three divers mattered.
Meanwhile, the Mavs' out-pointed CSU, 14-5 on the 1-meter before the Rams clawed a point back on the 3-meter.
Hurley finished third in the overall field of 12 on the 1-meter but was ahead of all three of the Ram divers. Hurley also took third out of 11 entrants in the 3-meter competition, finishing behind CSU's Margaret Di Scipio, by just 0.65 points. Hurley scored nine team points with her 1-meter performance and added four more thanks to the second place dual finish on the 3-meter.
In the 1-meter event, CMU freshman
Emma Lence took fourth overall and second in the CMU/CSU dual with a score of 235.35 points. Riley Lee was the Rams' top performer with a sixth place overall score of 229.00 while Di Scipio took seventh overall and fourth in the Maverick/Ram dual.
CMU junior
Kenya Meyer scored 226.20 points to claim the Mavs' final team point on the 1-meter.
Meyer then added a fourth place overall finish while taking third in the Mesa/Colorado State dual behind on Di Scipio and Hurley on the 3-meter. She scored 240.15 points, just 1.2 fewer than Hurley, to do so.
CMU's
Talia Datilio also added two team points on the 3-meter with a fourth place dual and fifth place overall finish. She scored 216.90 points on her six dives.
The Mavericks and Rams will contest 14 swimming events on Saturday, beginning at Noon in the Rams' Moby Pool.
CMU's men will also take on Denver in a more traditionally formatted dual on Saturday here in the El Pomar Natatorium. Diving action will begin at Noon while swimming will get underway at 2 p.m.
