ACCRA, Ghana— Colorado Mesa University freshman swimmer
Harry Stacey made the most of his trip home to Ghana, winning six and claiming medals in all eight individual events while being named as the Best Male Swimmer and Best Male Performer at this week's African Aquatics Zone 2 Swimming Championships, which his nation hosted here in their capital.
The 3-day meet, which included competition at the junior and senior levels, brought together the top swimmers from 18 West African nations.
Stacey, who also represented Ghana in the 2024 Paris Olympics this past summer, won the 50 and 100-meter breaststroke events and also took gold in the 50, 100, 200 and 400-meter freestyle disciplines throughout the meet. He also helped Ghana win two relay events and took second in the 50-meter butterfly and third in the 50-meter backstroke, his other two individual events.
Stacey, who began his studies at CMU this fall, is expected to make his collegiate swimming debut on Oct. 26 when the Mavericks host Wyoming in a dual-meet. He was unable to represent the Mavs during last weekend's Intermountain Shootout, held right before the international meet.
