CMU's Rodeo team traveled 26 athlete's and 32 horses competing in 8 events( Bull Riding, Tie Down Roping, Steer Wrestling, Team Roping, Barrel Racing, Breakaway Roping, Bareback Riding and Goat Tying) at Southern Utah University.

Ralson Descheny, an Arizona native and junior transfer from Lamar Community College represented CMU in Tie Down Roping. He finished the first round with a time of 12.6, placing 7
th. In the short round he finished with a time of 17.3, placing 5
th. He earned an average time of 29.9 for 5
th in the average.

Justise Jones of Alberta and
Hope Bondurant of Colorado represented CMU in Team Roping. Both athletes were penalty free on their first run, registering a time of 11.8. The duo showed their versatility, as both women qualified for the short round in multiple events, with
Hope Bondurant showing off her skills as an all-around competitor by switching ends to heeling in the team roping when she spent the entirety of the 22-23 season as a header.

On the weekend, the Breakaway roping was the tightest race for points. Bondurant tied for 5
th place in the first round with a time of 3.3. She went on and won 6
th place in the short round with a time of 4.6, her average time was 7.9 taking home 6
th place. Jones overcame adversity in the form of her draw, with the runner of the pen in the first round letting her rope in 3.0 for a tie for 2
nd place. In the short round she drew an incredibly slow calf and showed great patience at the barrier and making a business run of 3.5 for 3
rd place which combined for a 3
rd place finish in the average with a 6.5 on two head.

Wylee Mitchell,
Ky Murphy, and Taylor Davis added to CMU's 5 rodeo streak of having multiple competitors in the Barrel Racing short round while
Wylee Mitchell continued the dominance that earned her Rookie of the Year and Regional Champion honors from last season as she won both the long round (17.51) and the average (35.36 on two) in the Cedar City Arena for the second year in a row. In an added showing of great horsemanship Wylee gave her main mount Jack the night off and clocked a time of 17.85 for 3
rd in the short round on Gus, who also serves as her mount in the Team Roping and Breakaway Roping.Â
Ky Murphy ran an 18.13 finishing 9
th in the long round while Taylor Davis, a Colorado native who spent her first part of her collegiate career at Dodge City Community College made her Rocky Mountain Region debut by earning points in her first rodeo as a Maverick, qualifying in 7
th place from the first round with a time of 18.07 followed by a time of 17.90 in the short round placing her 4
th, with an overall time of 35.97 placing 5
th.

Senior
McKenna Clingman and freshman Haylee Stroud represented CMU in Goat Tying. Clingman, from Laramie, Wyoming, dominated the goat tying by winning the long round with a time of 7.2. Finishing 2
nd in the short round with a time of 7.3. She ended up with an average time of 14.5, making her place 1
st overall, winning the average time by a full second. Stroud, of Idaho, placing 8
th in the first round with a time of 9.7. Haylee came out in the short round and finished with a time of 8.8, placing her 4
th. Her average time was 18.5. This was Haylee's first time competing in goat tying in almost two years after a tearing her ACL playing volleyball.Â

The Mavericks are traveling to Pocatello, Idaho next weekend to compete at Idaho State University.
