GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.— The Colorado Mesa men's lacrosse season came to a disappointing end when the Mavericks were not one of the 12 teams selected to the NCAA Tournament.
The Mavericks were left out despite finishing the year 16-2 and with a head-to-head win over the region's top seed, Rollins. The Mavericks won their last nine games of the year and went undefeated in both the RMAC regular season and RMAC Tournament, lifting the conference tournament trophy for the fifth time in program history on Friday.
Colorado Mesa knew that they needed help entering the week, as the Mavs were ranked No. 7 in the South Region with six teams receiving a bid. Previous No. 4 Indianapolis provided some hope by losing to an unranked opponent in the conference semifinals, but UIndy received the No. 6 seed over CMU to still make the tournament.
At 16-2, Colorado Mesa has more wins than all six teams selected and fewer losses than all but two of the six teams picked. They were the only team this season to beat national No. 2 Rollins, who is currently 15-1.
