AZUSA, Calif.— Kira MacGill and
Mark Testa combined to set three new school-records in as many races while MacGill put herself very much in the picture for a possible NCAA Division II Outdoor Championship qualification spot with her efforts at the Azusa Pacific Franson Last Chance Meet on Friday and Saturday evenings here at Cougar Stadium.
On Friday, MacGill finished third in the 5,000 meters with a time of 16 minutes, 23.33 seconds and moved into the No. 16 spot of the current national performance list, pending other weekend results. She also went more than five seconds quicker than a 12-year old school record set by CMU Hall of Honor performer Alexis Skarda, who had run 16:28.42 at the 2011 Mt. SAC Relays.
MacGill then took down another of Skarda's record in the 1,500 meters on Saturday, running to a time of 4:25.75, more than three seconds faster than Skarda's 2010 record of 4:28.84, which had been the longest standing CMU women's outdoor track and field record prior to Saturday. MacGill's time will rank her as high as 25
th on the national performance list pending other weekend results.
Meanwhile, Testa obliterated the Mavs' 3,000-meter steeplechase record late Saturday evening. He finished in 9:17.81, nearly 18 seconds faster than
