Mavs dominate CSU Pueblo to cap 3-0 weekend

CMU women win fourth straight match and even overall record

PUEBLO, Colo.— The Colorado Mesa University women's tennis team completed a 3-0 weekend with their fourth straight win overall, dominating a short-handed CSU Pueblo squad, 7-0 on Sunday here at the Pueblo City Park Tennis Complex.

The Mavericks lost just ten total games throughout the entire dual as they leveled their overall record to 10-10 while defeating the now 0-9 ThunderWolves for the 38th consecutive time.

The last seven meetings have all been 7-0 shutouts.

CSU Pueblo fielded a lineup of just five players on Sunday as the Mavericks won the No. 3 doubles and No. 6 matches by default.

The Mavs were just as dominant on the court as they posted 6-2 and 6-0 wins in the other two doubles matches before Issy Coman and Delia Maier both recorded 6-0, 6-0 singles wins to clinch the dual.

Coman, who teamed with a Macy Richards for a 6-0 No. 2 doubles wins, defeated Olivia Ivankoe at No. 1 singles while Maier defeated Alyssa Wells at No. 5 singles.

Earlier, Makenna Livingston and Halle Romero were 6-2 winners over Ivankoe and Malaya Pendon at No. 1 doubles.  Head Coach Dan MacDonald then rested both in singles allowing freshman Kristen Thomas and Maier to play in the fourth and fifth flights, respectively.

Thomas delivered a 6-3, 6-0 win before Paige Furin finished the dual with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Sonrisa Bustamante at No. 3 singles.

Richards also claimed an earlier 6-0, 6-1 win over Pendon at No. 2 singles while Julianna Campos won by default at No. 6.  She and Furin were default winners in doubles.

The Mavericks will look to continue what is their longest winning streak since the start of the 2021 season when they head to Denver to play Pacific West Conference rival Hawai'i Hilo on Friday (Apr. 7) before returning for home for their final three matches of the regular season, beginning a day later against Colorado College, a team they defeated 9-0 on Saturday evening.
