COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— Colorado Mesa University's
Chase Brown,
Kevin DeGree and
Kate Linstedt were all named to the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's First Team All-Academic Cross Country teams that were announced on Wednesday morning as they led a group of 15 Maverick runners (9 men, 6 women) to be honored for their academic and running prowess.
The Mavs had 12 honor roll selections, which are listed below.
To be eligible for the first team honors, which were selected by a vote of the conference's sports information directors based on a combination of academic and athletic successes, student-athletes must have a 3.500 or higher GPA, have completed a full academic year at the nomination institution and used a season of eligibility. Honor Roll selections must have a 3.30 or higher GPA and meet the other requirements.
DeGree was a repeat first team selection while Brown and Linstedt were eligible for the first time this fall as redshirt freshman.
Brown, who hails from Bloomingdale, Michigan, holds a perfect 4.00 GPA while majoring in mechanical engineering technology. He ran in four meets this season, including both the RMAC and NCAA Division II South Central Regionals, placing 84
th and 94
th, respectively. He was a regular in the Mavs' scoring group, finishing as the team's second runner at the Lewis Crossover Invite with a season-best 8-kilometer time of 25:20.7. He was also the Mavs' fifth finisher at the conference meet and the team's third runner at the regional.
DeGree, a redshirt sophomore from Big Bear Lake, California, holds a 3.93 GPA in the same major. He was the most consistent Maverick throughout the season, beginning it with a tenth place finish as CMU's second finisher at the Mountaineer Invite. He then placed 96
th at the Lewis meet in 25:22.2 as CMU's third finisher. He was also the Mavs' third man at the RMAC Championships, where he placed 82
nd, before finishing second on the CMU squad and 85
th overall at the regional championships with a career-best 10K time of 32:48.1.
Linstedt, who hails from Fort Collins, Colorado, holds a 3.86 GPA and is majoring in civil engineering. She also ran in all four meets and was in the Mavs' scoring five in each. She helped the Maverick women to their best RMAC and South Central Regional Championships in seven years, taking 81
st at the regional and 71
st at the RMAC meet. She was the Mavs' all-important fifth runner at each. She was also team's fourth finisher at the Mountaineer Invite, where she placed 17
th overall.
