HUNTSVILLE, Ala.— Colorado Mesa University beach volleyball players
Taylor Scherff and
Gracyn Spresser wrapped up play at the AVCA Fall Collegiate Beach National Championships on Sunday, falling in the semifinal round of the 57
th place bracket here at the John Hunt Park Sand Volleyball Complex.
The Maverick duo received a default win over a pair from Hawai'i in their first scheduled match of the day before falling 21-12, 21-15 to Tampa's Payton Brunick and Cassidy Ehrie in their final match of the tournament.
Three of the four players in that match were involved in the Division II title match at last season's AVCA Small College Beach National Championships on Apr. 16. Brunick and then partner Julia Oswald defeated former Maverick greats in the Court 1 match while Ehrie and Leah Williams played an unfinished Court 2 match against CMU's
Hahni Johnson and
Savannah Spitzer.
Spresser fell in a No. 3 match with former partner
Jada Hall on that day.
TCU's Hailey Hamlett and Anhelina Khmil won the pairs tournament title on Sunday in three sets, taking the win over Stanford's Xolani Hodel and Brooke Rockwell.
