GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.— The nation's tenth-ranked Colorado Mesa University Mavericks extended their winning streak to six as setter
Sabrina VanDeList recorded a 48-assist, 14-dig double-double while orchestrating a balanced Maverick attack in a 4-set (25-17, 26-24, 21-25, 25-11) Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference win over the visiting UCCS Mountain Lions on Friday night in Brownson Arena.

The Mavericks, who improved to 17-1 overall and to 7-1 in RMAC play with the win, had four players in double-figures for kills and three in double-figures for digs as they hit .268 as a team, including at a .429 in both the first and fourth sets, which were dominant Maverick victories.

The Mountain Lions (5-11, 3-3 RMAC) out-played the Mavs in the middle two sets and had two double-double efforts from pin hitter Lauryn Shockley and setter Maylen Mitrovich.  However, they could not match the Mavs' overall fire-power.

CMU finished with 60 total kills, 20 more than the Mountain Lions, as redshirt senior middle hitter
Savannah Spitzer finished with 15 kills while hitting .361.  Reigning RMAC Offensive Player of the Week
Sydney Leffler added 14 more while sophomore middle
Aesha Alrashed had a career-high 12 kills while hitting .556.  Right side
Emma Shaddix also chipped in ten kills to aid the win.

Defensively, RMAC Defensive Player of the Week
Allison Waller recorded 16 digs while
Hahni Johnson added a career-high 14 to match VanDeList's total as CMU finished with a 65-57 edge in total digs.

Shockley led all players with 16 kills and added 14 digs while Mitrovich finished with 33 assists and 11 digs in the losing cause for UCCS.

The Mavericks were guilty of ten service errors as UCCS also finished with a 7-5 edge in service aces and a 9-5 advantage in blocks to remain in the match, especially in the middle two sets.

However, the Mavericks were impressive in the opening and closing sets, building as much as an 11-point lead at 19-8 and 20-9 en-route to the first-set win.  Spitzer had six kills and hit .750 in that set while VanDeList recorded 16 assists.

The Mavs also looked strong in the early stages of the second set, taking a 11-5 lead before the Mountain Lions rallied to pull within one at 16-15.  The Mavs held on to the slim lead temporarily before UCCS tied the set at 21 and 22 before eventually taking a 23-22 lead.

However, kills by VanDeList and Leffler put the Mavs in front, 24-23.

After an exchange of errors, Alrashed then finished off the set with her fifth kill of the night.

The Mavs also had a slight 11-9 lead in the third set before a 6-1 Mountain Lion run gave the visitors at 15-12 lead.

CMU then rallied to tie the set at 20 and again at 21 on a Spitzer kill before a Nicole Medlin kill, two Raegen Emery service aces on both sides of a Maverick timeout and a Sydnee Walker block gave the Mountain Lions the set win.

However, the Mavs were not flustered and scored the first four and six of the first seven fourth-set points while dominating the final frame.
The Mountain Lions did shake off the poor start and trailed just 7-5 and 11-8 margins before the Mavs exploded for a 6-0 run with VanDeList behind the serving line and another 6-1 spurt to close out the Mountain Lions with relative ease.

CMU combined for 14 kills and took advantage of eight Mountain Lion hitting errors in the final set, out-hitting the visitors, .429 to .000.

The Mavericks will now face a monstrous challenge on Saturday afternoon when the nation's 11
th-ranked Regis University Rangers will come into Brownson Arena.  The Rangers (13-3, 6-0 RMAC) have won ten straight matches after sweeping Westminster University on Friday in Salt Lake City.
