DEARBORN, Mich. – The Colorado Mesa men's golf team completed their second round of the NCAA National Championship on Tuesday (May 17) at the TPC of Michigan. The course played at a par 72, 7,056 yards on today's round with every team finishing above par on the round.
 
The Mavericks fired a 21-over, 309 in the second round for a two-round total of 44-over, 620. They gained one spot on the team leaderboard in 17
th position and are six strokes behind Grand Valley State and St. Thomas Aquinas who are in the clubhouse at 38-over, 614.
 
UIndy continues to lead the team race despite shooting a 14-over, 302 today to sit at 14-over, 590 for the tournament. Arkansas Tech is second at 15-over, 591 followed by Central Missouri and CSU Pueblo at 16-over, 592.
 
True freshman 
Timmy Cavarno continues to lead the Mavericks from the No. 5 position on the squad. Cavarno shot 3-over, 75 in today's round and sits at 7-over, 151 for the tournament. He shot 2-under on the front nine recording birdies on No. 1, No, 3, and No. 7 and is tied for second in par-5 scoring at 4-under.
 
The back nine has played tough for everyone in the field including Cavarno where he recorded three bogeys and a double in his round.
 
Peter Grossenbacher shot a 4-over, 76 in his second round.
 
No. 11 ranked Mateo Pulcini of Oklahoma Christian is thru hole No. 16 at the time of the release and sitting atop the individual leaderboard at 3-under, 141. UIndy's Keegan Bronnenberg and Oliver Mast along with Arkansas Tech's Holden Hamilton are in the clubhouse at 2-under, 142.
 
The top eight teams after Wednesday's third round will advance to the medal/match round play where teams will play each other head-to-head to advance for a chance at the NCAA Championship.
 
The Mavericks will be scheduled to tee off in the morning session tomorrow and will likely be paired with Davis & Elkins and Grand Valley State.
