Mavericks Swept in Doubleheader

LAKEWOOD, Colo. – The No. 11 Colorado Mesa baseball team was swept in a doubleheader on Saturday (Apr. 30) by Colorado Christian in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action at All-Star Park. The Mavericks are now 32-11 on the season and still hold sole possession of first-place in the conference standings.

In game one of the day, Colorado Christian got the best of the Mavericks in a 10-7 win that snapped the Mavericks six-game winning streak overall and against the Cougars.

The Mavericks never led after they struck in the top half of the first inning on an RBI single from Spencer Bramwell. They cut it to 9-7 in the top of the sixth inning but couldn't muster anymore in the inning or the game.

Haydn McGeary finished the game 2-for-4 with a double and his fifth home run of the series.

Harrison Rodgers, Robert Sharrar, and Spencer Bramwell all had multi-hit games.

Cooper Vasquez took the loss on the mound for the Mavericks to drop to 4-3 on the year.

In the night cap, the Mavericks surrendered three runs in the bottom of the third and bounced into three double plays in a 5-2 loss to the Cougars.

The double plays all came with more than one runner on base but the Mavericks had another huge opportunity go to waste in the top of the second inning. They had the bases loaded with nobody out that produced a ground ball fielder's choice back to the pitcher, a fly out and a pop out.

Spencer Bramwell had a RBI single in the third before Matthew Turner hit a solo home run in the top half of the fifth inning. Both players finished the game with three hits.

Frankie Fitzgerald took the loss on the mound to fall to 1-2 on the season.

The two teams will conclude the series tomorrow with a single nine-inning game beginning at noon.
