LAKEWOOD, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa baseball team dropped the final game of the four-game series to Colorado Christian on Sunday (May 1) afternoon by a score of 8-5 at All-Star Park to close out the road portion of the regular season.
Caleb Farmer put the Mavericks up early in the game as he belted a three-run home run to put the Mavericks up 3-0 after the first inning. The big fly was his 20
th of the season and gave him his 63
rd runs batted in.
Colorado Christian got one back in the bottom of the fourth inning before Farmer hit his second home run of the game to make it 4-1. It was home run number 21 on the season for the senior and California native and gave him four runs batted in on the day.
The Cougars ended up plating five in the bottom half of the sixth inning to take a 6-4 lead.
The Mavericks scratched across one in the top of the seventh inning on a bases loaded walk by
Haydn McGeary.
Colorado Christian got two insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to make it 8-5 and the Mavericks could not get anything going in the top half of the ninth inning.
Farmer finished the game 2-for-3 with two runs scored, two home runs and four runs driven in while
Johnny Carr went 3-for-4 with one run scored.
Wacy Crenshaw with the spot start went 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Josh Danyliw took the loss in relief of
Gage Edwards who had a great start. Edwards allowed one run on five hits, walked three and struck out seven in five innings of work.
Colorado Mesa falls to 32-12 on the season and will, at minimum, have a one-game lead in the RMAC standings pending the other results around the league this afternoon.
The Mavericks will return home for the final regular season games of the season. They will take on the CSU Pueblo ThunderWolves in a four-game series beginning on Thursday with ribbon cutting ceremonies scheduled for Thursday and fireworks following Friday's second game of the doubleheader.
