Mavs dominant in road win over D-III Tigers

Five CMU players go 2-0

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— The Colorado Mesa University women's tennis team put up a dominant effort in an 8-1 road win over Colorado College on Saturday here at Memorial Park.
 
The Mavericks swept the three doubles matches and won five of the six singles matches, all in straight sets as they improved to 8-12 as a team.  CC fell to 5-8.
 
Five different Mavericks went 2-0 during the dual, played under the NCAA Division III format with each doubles match, which were played to eight games, counting for a full point.
 
The Mavericks took advantage of that building a quick 3-0 lead as the Mavericks won a combined 24 games while holding the Tigers' doubles duos to just nine.
 
At No. 1, Makenna Livingston and Macy Richards won 8-3 over Olivia Dicks and Maddy Meister.  Halle Romero and Maike Waldburger also teamed for an 8-2 win over Gigi Jensen and Malia Rivera in the second flight while Julianna Campos and Lauren Thomas were 8-4 victors over Elizabeth Girian and Christina Heffron at No. 3.
 
The Mavericks continued the rout in singles as Livingston defeated Heffron, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) in the top flight while Waldburger was a dominant 6-2, 6-1 winner over Maddy Meister at No. 2.
 
Romero was just as strong at No. 3 singles, defeating Girian, 6-0, 6-3.
 
Richards and Campos also went 2-0.  Richards defeated Romi Hodor by a pair of 6-2 set scores in the fourth flight while Campos was victorious, 6-3, 6-0 over Jensen at No. 5.
 
The Tigers lone point came from Rivera, who knocked off CMU"s Audrey O'Rear at No. 6 singles.
 
The Mavericks will wrap up a 3-day trip to the Front Range on Sunday morning when they play winless CSU Pueblo (0-8) at the Pueblo Tennis Center.
