Trio Lead Mavericks in RMAC Second Round

CHANDLER, Ariz. – Colorado Mesa's Kyle Pearson and Peter Grossenbacher helped the Mavericks make their move up in the team leaderboard in today's (Apr. 18) second round of the 2022 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Men's Golf Championships at Whirlwind Golf Club.

Senior Kyle Pearson shot his best round of the year and his first round in the 60s this season as he fired a 6-under, 66 in today's second round of the RMAC Championships. The 66 ties for the sixth best score in program history and the 6-under is tied for the best round versus par in the history of the program.

Pearson had six birdies in the round and didn't record a score worse than par. He was 5-under on the front nine and 1-under on the back. It was the best score of any player in the round and moved Pearson into a tie for 17th on the leaderboard at 2-over, 146.

Redshirt sophomore Peter Grossenbacher tied for his best round of the season as he carded a 4-under, 68 in the second round. Like his teammate Kyle Pearson, Grossenbacher had a bogey free round, carding four birdies with three coming in the front nine.

True freshman Timmy Cavarno continues to impress as he shot a 1-over, 73 in today's round to remain in the top-20 of the field.

CSU Pueblo's Andrew NI, ranked No. 25 by GolfStat, and Westminster's Zach Dallimore are still tied after two rounds of play. The duo is currently at 7-under, 137 for the tournament after matching 3-under, 69s today.

Colorado Mesa moved up one slot on the leaderboard but are in position to make a run at a top-four finish. The Mavericks shot a 6-under, 282 which was the second best team total of the day. They are seven strokes behind fifth-place Fort Lewis and nine strokes behind fourth-place Westminster.

No. 25 CSU Pueblo continues to lead the tournament and widened their lead in round two. They shot a 9-under, 279 in today's round to lead by eight strokes over second place UCCS.
