PUEBLO, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa men's golf team closed out their final regular season tournament on Tuesday (Apr. 12) afternoon as they finished their third and final round at the Southern Colorado Masters at Walking Stick Golf Course.
The Mavericks dropped a spot on the team leaderboard from Monday as they shot an 18-over, 306 to finish in third place. Fort Lewis moved ahead of them, but they managed to stave off Western New Mexico and Colorado School of Mines to remain in the top three.
Tournament host CSU Pueblo won the team title by 19 strokes over second place Fort Lewis. The ThunderWolves shot a three-round score of 864 to the Skyhawks' 883.
Dakota Gillman closed out his best tournament of his career on Tuesday and he finished with a 4-over, 76 to finish in a tie for fourth place on the individual leaderboard and the best finish by any Maverick. Gillman finished with a 2-over, 218 for his three rounds and finished among the best in the field on the par fours. He was second in the field in pars scored in the three rounds with 35.
Peter Grossenbacher finished in a tie for 15
th place with a 7-over, 223 in his three rounds. He fired a 3-over, 75 in his final round on Tuesday, recording three birdies on the day.
Senior
Kyle Pearson led the tournament in pars with 36.
CSU Pueblo's Andrew Ni, ranked No. 29 in the National GolfStat rankings, won the individual medalist honor after shooting a 5-under, 211 in his three rounds.
The Mavericks will now prepare for the RMAC Championships which begin this Sunday (Apr. 17) at Whirlwind Golf Course in Arizona.
