Boise, Idaho. – Facing their eighth and ninth Division I opponents, the Colorado Mesa beach volleyball team split on day one of the Boise State Beach Classic.
With wins at flights 3,4,5 the Mavericks picked up their 11
th win as a team, downing the Oregon Ducks, 3-2 to open the day.
In a 3-set battle,
Ara Norwood and
Sierra Hunt came out on top with a 17-15 win in the deciding set to secure the Mavs first point of the dual. The Ducks would go up 2-1 after taking wins at No. 2 and No. 1.
With the threes and fives, the Mavs needed to win at both to claim the dual.
Jada Hall and
Jessa Megenhardt tied it up at two with a straight set win at the three spot. All eyes on the No. 5 court,
Tye Wedhorn and
Sabrina VanDeList battled back in the first to take it 23-21, running away with the second set, 21-13. A statement kill by VanDeList closed out the game and the dual in favor of CMU.
With a short break before taking on the Washington Huskies, the Mavs hung tough but ultimately fell, 3-2.
Holly Schmidt and
Macie Lachemann came out on top with a three-set victory at the twos, their 11
th victory as a pair.
Hall and Megenhardt came out on top in their respective flight, finishing 2-0 on the day.
Colorado Mesa will play host Boise State, Saturday (April 2) at 10 a.m. to close out the weekend.
