Irvine, Calif. – With a couple days off since their last go around, the Colorado Mesa beach volleyball team will have one more day of play in the Golden State before returning home. Saturday (March 26) the team faces just their second and third Division II opponents of the season in Concordia Irvine and Cal State LA.
Games will take place at Great Park in Irvine, first serve scheduled for 9 a.m. PST against the Eagles of CUI, followed by the a dual with the Golden Eagles of Cal State LA at 10:30 a.m. PST.
Winner, Winner
With eight wins under their belt, those victories are a program best. The Mavericks are 9-6 overall and maintain an above 500 winning percentage.
Extending their win streak to six, the Mavs added another first to their season claiming a 4-1 victory over California State Northridge earlier in the week, their first over the Matadors in the seven-game history.
Five on It
In the No. 5 spot,
Tye Wedhorn and
Sabrina VanDeList had won their last five contests as a pair, sitting at 8-2 overall on the season.
They secured the dual clinching point in the first game against CSUN, and fought through a 3-set game in the second to grab the game tying point in the second dual of the day.
Scouting the Eagles (CUI)
At 15-3 overall, the Eagles three losses came at the hands of Division I opponents, Pepperdine and Cal State Bakersfield. Most recently, they swept Life Pacific and Marymount earlier in the week and are 7-1 when playing at Great Park.
Scouting the Golden Eagles (Cal State LA)
In their fifth season as a program, the Golden Eagles and the Mavs will meet for the first time Saturday. At 2-6 thus far, they captured wins over Marymount and Hope International during opening weekend.
Since then they have dropped the last six contests, which included games against CSUN who the Mavs met earlier, and the Boise State who the Mavs will see later on in the spring schedule. Ashley Dittmann and Iane Henke have been solid in the No. 1 slot, picking up the team's lone point against CSUN, and have a 5-3 record together.
