FRESNO, Calif.— Maike Waldburger went 2-0 but was not quite enough to lead the Colorado Mesa University women's tennis team, which fell 4-3 to the Dominican University of California Penguins a neutral-site encounter here at Fresno Pacific University's Haak Tennis Complex on Tuesday.
Waldburger and
Paige Furin won their No. 2 doubles match by a 6-4 margin before Waldburger was one of three Maverick winners in singles play. However, the Penguins won the other three singles matches after taking the doubles point to improve to 7-4 as a team with their third straight win.
The Mavericks fell to 7-11.
Two of the Penguins' singles wins came in three sets as they did just enough to prevail.
CMU's winners were freshman
Makenna Livingston, Waldburger and
Julianna Campos. Livingston won the No. 2 singles match over Haley Garcia, 6-3, 6-4. Waldburger was leading Gina Dudley, 6-1, 1-0 in the No. 3 singles match when Dudley retired.

The Penguins' Audrey Rafols, ranked 31
st nationally, clinched the dual with a 3-6, 7-6 (10-8), 6-1 win over
