Mavericks blanked by nationally-ranked Sunbirds

FRESNO, Calif.— The nation's 46th-ranked Fresno Pacific University Sunbirds won every match in a 7-0 victory over the Colorado Mesa University women's tennis team on Monday afternoon here at the Sunbirds' Haak Tennis Complex.

The Sunbirds improved to 8-6 with the win as the Mavericks slipped to 7-10.

Freshman Macy Richards was the lone Maverick to win a set, as she won the first set of her No. 5 singles match against Alice Marques, by a 6-4 score.  However, Marques came back to take the second set, 6-0, and then won the match tie-breaker, 10-7.

Fellow freshman Makenna Livingston was the next best Maverick effort.  She fell 6-3, 6-2 to Lea Falentin, ranked 24th in the latest ITA NCAA Division II singles rankings.

The Mavericks will wrap up a 3-day stay in Fresno playing Dominican University of California in a neutral-court match-up at 1:30 p.m. PDT (2:30 p.m. Mountain).  The Penguins are 6-4 after claiming a Sunday afternoon home win over American River College.
