PLEASANTON, Calif. – The Colorado Mesa men's golf team co0uldnt make up enough ground and settled for 11
th place at the Bay Area Invitational at The Golf Club at Ruby Hills on Tuesday (Feb. 22) afternoon.
 
The Mavericks fell just two strokes short of a top ten finish at the tournament and settled for a three-day total of 911. They were behind Stanislaus State and Saint Martin's and finished 28 strokes better than 12
th place Hawaii Pacific.
 
Cal State San Marcos was the team champion at even-par, 864 and 19 strokes better than second place Sonoma State.
 
Senior 
Kyle Pearson paced the Mavericks with a 25
th place finish at the tournament after finishing with a 9-over, 225 in his three rounds. In today's third and final round, Pearson shot a 1-under, 35 on the back nine, where he started, and closed with an even par on the front.
 
Pablo Diaz was the Mavericks number two golfer as he finished just one shot behind his teammate to finish in 31
st place. Diaz fired a 2-over, 74 in his final round and finished with a three-round score of 226.
 
Cal State San Marcos' Matt Pennington was the individual medalist with a final round of 2-over, 74 after matching 67s in yesterday's two rounds.
 
Colorado Mesa will be back in action on March 6 as they will compete in the UMSL Desert Classic hosted by Missouri St. Louis at The Legacy Golf Club in Las Vegas.
