Grand Junction, Colo.- The Mavericks battled the Regis Rangers at home and were able to get their 20th win of the season by a score of 91-79.
Colorado Mesa knew what this game meant for their season and with two tough games at home this weekend they brought their game faces from the very beginning.
Throughout the first half it was back and forth as there were three lead changes and the game was tied seven times. The Rangers had their best scoring run of five the half at the 11:22 mark. The Mavericks best run came right when they needed it the most. In the last two minutes of the game.
The second half was all CMU, as they led for all 20 minutes of the half and had a big 15 point lead at the 16:50 minute mark. The Mavericks shot 64% from the field both halves combined.
Redshirt freshman Trevor Baskin led the team with 21 points. Baskin got into foul trouble late in the game but put up a solid performance. Another redshirt freshman in Mac Riniker got into foul trouble in the second half of the game but was able to put on a performance throughout the night as he scored 19 points for the Mavericks.
On the defensive side of the game, redshirt senior Jared Small, redshirt freshman Blaise Threatt and Baskin all had five rebounds.
The Mavericks will be back in Brownson Arena on Feb.19 to take on the Colorado School of Mines Orediggers in what will be the team's last regular season home game. Tip-off is set for 7:30
