Alamosa, CO – Colorado Mesa men's basketball held on for a 73-65 win over Adams State Friday night in Alamosa, their 20-point lead after the first half proving to be enough to fend off the Grizzlies in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action. The win makes it four-straight for the Mavericks (19-8, 13-5 RMAC).
Tied up at 14 nearing the 10-minute mark in the first half, the Mavericks went ahead 45-25 at the break, in large part to three consecutive 3-pointers off the hands of
Isaac Jessup. The first half was highlighted by a 60-percent shooting and 6 baskets from beyond the arc.
The tables would turn in the second period, as the Grizzlies started to string together shots inching in on the Mavs lead. Midway through the second, they would pull within eight. Short lived,
Trevor Baskin dropped in a layup, followed by an and-one from
Blaise Threatt to push them back within a double-digit lead.
In the final few minutes, the Grizzlies tried to rally getting back into single digits but a layup by Threatt capped off the scoring for the night as the Mavs claimed the final bucket and season sweep.
Only fitting, Baskin finished with 22-points (10-of-13 FG) matched by Threatt for a game-high. Threatt was 9-of-13, with a team leading eight rebounds.
Isaac Jessup hit an impressive 4-for-4 from beyond the arc as the third Mav to finish in double-figures.
Rylan O'Brien and Nykolas Lange lead their team's scoring with 15-points apiece, Malik Moore capturing a double-double with 10-points and 10-rebounds.
Colorado Mesa will return to Grand Junction for their final home series, playing host to Regis and Colorado School of Mines, Friday and Saturday respectively.
