Mavericks Can't Buy a Bucket in Loss to Mountain Lions

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa women's basketball team could not find the bottom of the net in a 71-51 loss to the UCCS Mountain Lions on Friday (Dec. 9) evening at the Gallogly Events Center in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action.

The Mavericks shot a season-low 27.6 percent from the field as they made exactly four field goals in each quarter. Conversely, the 49.2 percent the Mountain Lions shot from the field is a season-high for a Maverick opponent.

Colorado Mesa jumped out to a six-point lead in the first quarter with 7:16 remaining in the frame after Tia Slade nailed a three to make is 8-2. That was the only lead they had and it lasted for nearly seven minutes.

UCCS beat the Mavericks in two categories on the evening as they had a 42-14 in points in the paint and 17-1 on fast break points.

Slade led the Mavericks with 11 points while Olivia Reed had nine rebounds.

Mountain Lion Amyah Moore Allen led all scorers with 22 points on 9-of-17 shooting from the field.

The Mavericks will look to bounce back tomorrow afternoon as they are slated to play at Regis at 3pm in Denver.
