RICHMOND, Va.— The Colorado Mesa University women surged five spots into the No. 1 position of the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA)'s NCAA Division II Top 25 Dual Meet Rankings for the first time in program history. The Maverick men also moved up a spot to a program-best third in the December edition of the rankings, announced by the organization on Friday morning.
The Maverick women received ten of the 12 possible first place votes and topped the poll with 298 points, dethroning former No. 1 Indianapolis, which slipped to second with 290 points and the other two first place votes.
The change comes on the heels of the Mavs' strong performances at the TYR/CMU Invitational in November, which saw the Mavs win 12 of the 19 swimming events en-route to a 62-point victory over Division I Northern Arizona, the 9-time defending Western Athletic Conference Champions, and the rest of 7-team women's field.
The Mavs also set nine new school-records, including new marks in all five relays, during the TYR meet.
The rest of the women's CSCAA poll top five was also mixed up as Florida's Nova Southeastern and Tampa both moved up a spot to third and fourth, respectively, while former No. 3 Drury dropped two spots. West Florida, Grand Valley State, West Chester, Wingate and Northern Michigan round out the rest of the top ten.
The Maverick women are the only Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference team in the poll and will be looking for a fifth straight conference title in February.
The CMU men will also be looking for a fifth straight crown and received 269 points in this month's poll, conducted by a panel of member coaches and select media members, of which CMU assistant coach
Andy Parro is a part of.
Drury is now in the top spot with 297 points and nine first place votes while UIndy moved down a spot to second with 291 points and the other three first place votes.
The Mavericks are ahead of McKendree, down two spots to fourth, and Findlay, up three spots to fifth.
RMAC rival Oklahoma Christian is now ninth after sitting sixth a moth ago while the Colorado School of Mines jumped all the way to 13
th after not being in the top 25 in November.
The Maverick men won all but one event at the TYR/CMU Invitational finishing 243 points ahead of Mines, which took second out of four men's teams. The Mavs also set 11 new school-records.
The Mavericks will begin the 2023 portion of the season with a pair of duals at Division I Utah on Jan. 6 and 7.
