Wedhorn also earns First Team nod as ten Mavs honored for academic success

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— Colorado Mesa University setter Sabrina VanDeList was named as the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's Academic Volleyball Player of the Year and was joined on the First Team RMAC All-Academic squad by Tye Wedhorn, it was announced by conference officials on Tuesday.

The Mavs also had eight RMAC All-Academic Honor Roll selections.

VanDeList, an elementary education major with a perfect 4.000 GPA, leads the RMAC in service aces with 49 and ranks second in the conference and fifth in all of Division II volleyball for assists per set (11.36).  The Severance, Colorado native was also named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Third Team and to the RMAC All-Academic First Team last year.  She earned First Team All-RMAC honors in both the spring and fall of 2021 and was named as the 2020-21 RMAC Freshman of the Year.  She has been named as the RMAC Setter of the Week on nine separate occasions throughout her career, including three honors this season, while helping lead to the Mavericks to a 20-5 overall record and a No. 17 national ranking in this week's AVCA Division II Coaches' Poll.

She is the second Maverick to have earned the Academic Player of the Year honor, joining Taylor Woods (2018) and becomes the first Mavericks since MacKenzie Edwards (2016-18) to receive First Team RMAC All-Academic honors in consecutive years.

Wedhorn, a middle blocker from Glenwood Springs, Colorado, completed her bachelor's degree in international business with a 3.929 GPA in the spring and is now in her first semester as an MBA graduate student.   Now in her fifth year in the RMAC, she has earned a pair of Second Team All-RMAC honors, doing so in 2018 as a freshman at Fort Lewis, where she played for two seasons, and then again in 2021 as a CMU Maverick.  Wedhorn was also an AVCA Honorable Mention All-American and All-South Central Region selection last year and earned D2CCA Second Team All-Region honors in 2021 as well.

This year, Wedhorn ranks third in the RMAC with her .348 hitting percentage and leads the Mavericks while ranking tenth in the RMAC for blocks (0.87/set).   She also leads all active Mavericks with 723 career kills and 304 career blocks.

Members of the elite RMAC All-Academic First Team were nominated and selected via a vote of sports information directors from the member institutions.  In order to be eligible for nomination, student-athletes must have a 3.50 or higher GPA, up from 3.30 in previous years, be in their second academic year at the institution and have used a season of eligibility.

Those not selected were automatically placed on the honor roll, which still requires student-athletes to maintain a 3.30 or higher GPA and meet the other requirements.

The Mavericks honor roll selections are listed below with their GPA's and majors:
