GUNNISON, Colo.— The Colorado Mesa University Mavericks dominated the outside and dominated in the middle en-route to their eighth straight victory, a 4-set (25-20, 25-17, 21-25, 25-13) triumph on the road at Western Colorado University on Friday night.
The Mavericks hit .373 as a team as they defeated the Mountaineers for the 19
th straight time dating back to 2013 while improving to 16-4 overall and to 11-2 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play this year.
The Mountaineers fell to 2-18 overall and to 1-12 in the conference.

Tye Wedhorn (10) were also in double figures.
Spitzer also finished with six blocks and hit an errorless .696 on 23 attempts. Wedhorn also hit well above .600, committing just one error and hitting .643 while registering two blocks.
The outside were also efficient as Hunt hit .364 while Leffler, the reigning RMAC Offensive Player of the Week, hit at a .308 clip.

Sabrina VanDeList orchestrated it all and finished with 48 assists, eight digs and three blocks.
Kerstin Layman finished with 18 digs defensively as the Mavs finished with a 54-31 advantage in that category.
The Mavs also had a 62-46 advantage in total kills although Emily Mangone and Caroline Parker were both in double-figures for the hosts, recording 12 and ten, respectively.
The Mavs hit .469, .370 and .414 in their three set wins but were guilty of seven hitting errors while hitting a more realistic .233 in the third set.
The Mavs trailed 11-10 near the mid-point of the first set but went on to take a 21-16 lead while forcing a Mountaineer timeout. Spitzer then had two kills in the final stage.
The Mavs went on to take 10-6 and 16-10 leads in the second set and came out of another Mountaineer timeout on a 5-1 spurt to go ahead 21-11 on a
Maddi Foutz service ace.
The Mountaineers did score five of the next six points before three Hunt kills helped the Mavericks build a 2-0 overall lead.
The third set then featured eight early ties and three lead changes before the Mountaineers went on a 4-0 run to go ahead 17-12. The Mavs did cut the deficit to a single point at 20-19 and 21-20 before a 4-1 Mountaineer run kept the hosts alive.

Hahni Johnson served the Mavericks to a 9-0 fourth-set lead, which proved to be more than enough as the Mavs went to extend the lead to 13-1 while holding on to the 12-point final margin of victory.
CMU will look to extend their winning streak to nine on Saturday night when they play in Durango at Fort Lewis College (8-11, 6-7 RMAC). That match in the Skyhawks' Whalen Gymnasium will be at 6 p.m.
