ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Colorado Mesa men's golf team closed out their second tournament of the season with an eighth-place finish at the RJGA South Central Region Shootout at the University of New Mexico Championship Course on Tuesday (Sept. 21) afternoon.
 
The Mavericks moved up one spot on the team leaderboard in today's final round after shooting 308 for a three-round total of 903. Conditions were likely difficult today as even par was the best team score of the round and only two teams shot below 300.
 
RMAC foe CSU Pueblo won the overall team title at 7-under, 857 for the tournament.
 
Ethan Bishop continued having a solid tournament and didn't finish quite where he wanted to, settling for sixth place on the overall leaderboard. Bishop shot a 4-over, 76 in his final round to finish 1-over for the tournament. Throughout the day at point or another he held the lead that included a point where he was 5-under for the tournament.
 
This is the best career finish for the redshirt sophomore in his three seasons in the program.
 
Freshman 
Chris Tarmet shot the best round of the day at 3-over, 75 and finished in a tie for 50
th place in his first collegiate tournament.
 
Peter Grossenbacher finished as the Mavericks No. 2 golfer in the tournament as he finished in a tie for 33
rd in the tournament at 228.
 
The Mavericks will be off for a couple weeks before they jump into their third tournament of the fall. They will play in the NCAA South Central / West Region Preview at Pueblo Country Club, the site of the 2022 NCAA South Central / West Region Championships in May.
