ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Colorado Mesa men's golf team was back out on the course on Monday (Sept. 20) at the RJGA South Central Shootout at the University of New Mexico Championship Course.
After the first two rounds on Monday, the Mavericks sit in a tie for eighth place after playing near identical rounds. They shot 8-over, 296 in their first round followed by a 9-over, 297 in the afternoon round. Lubbock Christian and UCCS each are in a tie for seventh also and all tree schools are 10 strokes better than Fort Lewis and nine strokes behind Texas A&M Commerce and Midwestern State in fourth place.
Ethan Bishop is playing some of his best golf in his collegiate career in this tournament as he is in a tie for third place on the overall leaderboard with a 3-under, 141 in his two rounds. Bishop fired an even par, 72 in his first round after scoring two birdies and two bogeys in the round. He backed that up with a 3-under, 69 in his second round. He had six birdies and five bogeys on his card along with an eagle on the par-5, No. 18.
Peter Grossenbacher is in the hunt with Bishop after shooting a 1-under, 71 in the second round. He carded two birdies against just one bogey in the round where in the first round he was a little inconsistent with four birdies and five bogeys along with a double. Despite the slower first round, Grossenbacher is in a tie for 24
th at 3-over.
The third and final round of the tournament is slated to begin tomorrow morning at 8am.
