DENVER, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa men's golf team shot the lowest round of the day by any team but came up short in an attempt to move up on the team leaderboard and had to settle for a seventh-place finish at The Writz at Mile High at Bear Creek Golf Club on Tuesday (Sept. 14).
 
The Mavericks shot a 2-over, 290 as a team for the low round of the day as they only had two scores on the five golfer's scorecards that registered worse than a bogey and both scores came on the par-4, No. 18 hole. They finished just one stroke behind sixth-place Westminster and three strokes behind fifth place UCCS.
 
Colorado Christian was the overall team champion with a three-round score of 867. Midwestern State was second followed by Colorado School of Mines and CSU Pueblo for the top four team finishers.
 
Yael Chahin paced the Mavericks with a tied for 15
th place finish at 4-over, 220 for his three rounds. Chahin shot a 1-over, 73 in his final round after carding four birdies, three bogeys and a double bogey. After a bogey on No. 2, the sophomore played the next 10 holes 4-under par.

Timmy Cavarno and redshirt sophomore 
Ethan Bishop each finished in a tie for 25
th place with a 6-over, 222. Cavarno shot a 4-over, 76 in his final round while Bishop fired a 2-over, 74 on Tuesday.
 
The Mavericks will be back in action next week at the South Central Region Fall Preview at UNM Championship Course in Albuquerque, N.M.
