AUSTIN, Texas— Colorado Mesa University football student-athletes Isaac Maestas and Jack Metcalf have both been named to the 2020-21 Academic All-District Team as selected by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America).
 
Metcalf, an offensive lineman from San Diego, California, and Maestas, a Clifton, Colorado native who was selected at the running back position, are now both on the ballot for NCAA Division II Academic All-America honors, which will be announced on July 13.

Nominations and voting for the Academic All-District teams was conducted by position and for 2020-21 was based on career statistics and accomplishments due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the effects that had in regards to extreme inconsistencies of number of games played throughout the year.

Metcalf, who had a 3.40 GPA going into the spring semester, a figure that is now up to 3.47, is an energy management/landman major.  He started the final four games of 2019 and all three that CMU played in the 2020 COVID affected season.  He helped the Mavericks score 34.5 points and rush for 1,866 yards in 2019.  The 2020 team averaged 241.7 rushing and 385.3 total yards in their three games.

Maestas, a business management major with a 3.77 GPA at the time of the nomination, a figure that is now up to 3.80 after the spring semester, is a 2-time overall Rocky Mountain All-Academic selection.  He earned first team honors in 2018 and was an honor roll selection in 2019, a year that saw him also earn Honorable Mention All-RMAC honors as a punter.

In 2019, Maestas played at both the running back and punter positions as led the team in rushing with 687 yards, recording three 100-plus yard games.

He has also averaged 40.1 yards per punt throughout his career.  The Palisade High School product played as a linebacker and punter in 2018.
