TAVARES, Fla.— The Colorado Mesa University beach volleyball team dropped its final match at the AVCA Small College Championships to Texas A&M-Kingsville on Sunday morning as the Mavericks finished in a tie for fifth place in the 3-day tournament, which wrapped up here at Hickory Point Beach.
The Javelinas' 5-0 victory came in the quarterfinal round of the Gold Bracket.
CMU went 2-3 throughout the weekend and now holds a 5-13 overall record.
On Sunday, the Mavericks' No. 1 pair of
Maddi Foutz and
Holly Schmidt won a set, but fell to the Javelinas' Olivia Nicholson and Roxanne Morris, 21-11, 14-21, 15-8. The Javelinas' other four wins came in straight sets.
The Mavericks will wrap up their season on Saturday (Apr. 24) hosting Trinidad State Junior College in a doubleheader, beginning at 11 a.m. on the CMU Beach Courts.
