Box Score 2 DENVER, Colo. – The top-ranked Colorado Mesa baseball team completed a rare, doubleheader Sunday only sweep of the Regis Rangers after picking up a 27-4 and 6-3 wins in the brief two-game series at Regis Ballpark in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action
Colorado Mesa has been scoring runs at an alarming rate this year and in game one of Sunday's doubleheader was no different as they defeated Regis 27-4.
Offensively, the Mavericks received hits from 15 of the 17 players that played in the game, led by the 5-for-6 performance from
Haydn McGeary. The sophomore drove in seven runners with a double and his 10
th home run of the season in the seventh inning.
Caleb Farmer is another one of the players that had a superb game one. Farmer was one of the last Maverick regulars without a home run and he decided today to not just hit one home run but two home runs. The junior was 4-for-7 with three runs scored and six runs driven in. Both homers went to left field with one going as a two-run shot and the other a three-run dinger.
Harrison Rodgers finished with four hits and a home run while
Matthew Turner hit his team leading 11
th home run in the top of the fifth inning.
That was all staff ace
Andrew Morris would need as he pitched the Mavericks to the win. Morris allowed four runs on six hits, walked one and struck out six in six innings of work.
Normal game two starter
Ryan Day pitched the final three innings of the game to earn the rule book save. Day allowed just one hit, one walk while striking out four in his time on the mound.
In the second game of the doubleheader, the Regis Rangers outhit the Mavericks but it wasn't enough as they came away with a 6-3 win. The win runs the Mavericks winning streak to 12 games.
Colorado Mesa was walked seven times as only two players had hits in the game.
Rodgers had three of the four hits for the Mavericks as Farmer had the other one. Two of the four hits went for extra bases as Rodgers hit a triple and Farmer a double.
Trevin Reynolds earned the win on the mound as he pitched four innings and allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits, walked two and struck out three to earn his sixth win of the season.
Anthony Durbano earned his second save of the season. Durbano entered the game with the win on the line in the seventh. The bases were loaded with nobody out and Durbano retired the Rangers in order on a pop out to the catcher, a strikeout, and a fly out to left field and didn't allow an inherited runner to score.
The Mavericks will return to Suplizio Field next weekend for a four-game set with the New Mexico Highlands Cowboys.
