GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.— The Colorado Mesa University Softball team demolished the Colorado School of Mines Orediggers by an 18-0 score in the first game before scoring four runs in the bottom of the seventh in Game 2 to claim a 9-8 come-from-behind walk-off victory as the Mavs remained perfect on the season with the Saturday afternoon sweep in their home-opening doubleheader here at the CMU Softball Stadium.
The Mavericks are now 6-0 overall and in the RMAC and are and in sole possession of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference lead after Regis, now 5-1 in the RMAC, split a pair of 1-run decisions at New Mexico Highlands.

Ellie Smith both went 5-for-8 and combined for 13 RBIs in the sweep while
Sarah Staudle delivered the walk-off single in second game.
Mines, which fell to 4-6 overall and 3-3 in the RMAC, was guilty of six errors in the first game a very costly one in the bottom of the seventh in Game 2, which allowed the Mavs to score three unearned runs in the final at bat of the day. Twelve of the Mavericks' first-game runs were also unearned.
Wedman hit two home runs in the second game and had four RBIs in each while Smith had a double in each contest as she finished the day with five RBIs.

Game 1
The Mavericks scored five first inning runs and tacked on eight more in the second as they rushed to a 13-0 lead. A run-scoring Smith double and two-run single by
Nicole Christensen were the biggest highlights of the opening inning. Smith also had a 2-run single in the second while Wedman delivered a 2-run double later in the frame.
The Orediggers were also their own worst enemy committing five of their six first-game errors in those two innings.
In the fourth, the Wedman hit a 2-run, 2-out double before
Ally Distler hit a 2-run shot one play later. Smith then knocked the next pitch out of the park as well as the Mavericks completed the scoring in the fourth inning.
Smith and Wedman both went 3-for-4 with four RBIs each in that contest, while
Brooke Doumer was 2-for-3 while adding a stolen base and being plunked.
Game 2
The Mavericks were the team guilty of errors in the second game, as they committed five. The first of those helped the Orediggers get out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first. However, Wedman hit a 3-run shot in the bottom half of the inning to tie the score.
The Mavericks were then guilty of two more errors in the second as the Orediggers built a 6-3 lead before an RBI double by Doumer cut the gap to 6-4 in the bottom half of the inning.
In the fourth, the Orediggers' time at the plate was extended by yet another error as a double steal of second and home followed by a Kylie Redding RBI single put the Orediggers up 8-4.
After stranding one runner on base in the fourth, the Mavericks then started the comeback as Wedman hit her second homer of the game and fourth of the season to lead off the fifth to cut the gap to 8-5.
Neither team would score in the sixth before the Orediggers went down in order in the top half of the seventh.
After a flyout to left for the first out in the bottom of the seventh, Wedman reached on an error before moving to second on a Distler single. Smith then delivered an RBI single to right to plate Wedman.
With runners at the corners and down 8-6 with just one out, the Mavericks then brought in
Aislyn Sharp to run for Smith.
Ashley Bradford then recorded an RBI ground out which scored Distler as the Mavs closed the gap to 8-7 with two outs.
Christensen then singled through the left side to plate Sharp with the game-tying run, one play before Staudle hit a single up the middle to give the Mavs the win.
The Mavericks out-hit Mines 14-10 in the game as Smith allowed just two earned runs in the first four innings before Mauser struck out three Orediggers while giving up just two hits the rest of the way.
Wedman,
Drew Sims, Smith and catcher
Kaley Barker all had two hits for the Mavs.
The two teams will play another doubleheader on Sunday, beginning at 11 a.m.
