Mavs to host NCAA Wrestling Regional

Final two duals canceled

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.— Colorado Mesa University Athletic Department Officials have announced that Mavericks have been selected to as a replacement host for the upcoming NCAA Division II Super Region VI Wrestling Championships, which will be contested on Sunday, Feb. 28, starting at Noon (new time) in Brownson Arena.

The status of fans being able to attend under COVID-19 related protocols is yet to be determined.

In additional news, the Mavericks' two remaining Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference men's wrestling duals have been canceled.  The Mavericks were due to host Western Colorado University on Thursday evening and then travel to CSU-Pueblo on Saturday.

Thus, the Mavericks have finished the dual-meet portion of their schedule with 4-3 overall and 2-1 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference marks.

The regional was originally scheduled to be hosted by Adams State University in Alamosa, but has been moved due to COVID-related protocols and facility limitations.

CMU last hosted the regional in 2014.

The regional will qualify individual wrestlers for the NCAA Division II Championships, which have been moved to St. Louis, Missouri and the America's Center Convention Complex.  That tournament will be contested on Mar. 12 and 13.
